Self-assessment of work ability and functional capacity makes it possible to monitor the situation of Finns’ working life capabilities, strengths and targets for development. The self-assessment of work ability and functional capacity takes place using the Finnish Institute of Occupational Health’s Abilitator method.
Description
The collection of the Finnish Institute of Occupational Health’s Abilitator survey data was started in 2015 and it was ended in 2023. The data on this page include 7,282 randomly picked responses to the survey from 2015–2020. This openly available data has been made more imprecise and random variation has been added to it. The respondents are users of public services aimed at those in a challenging labour market position. Therefore, the data is not representative of the situation of Finns in general.
What the indicators describe
In addition to man or woman, the respondent may have specified other as their gender or declined to respond. There are rather few “other” responses, so the data for these persons has been omitted to secure privacy. Age was asked about at an accuracy of a year.
Perceived work ability was asked about on an 11-point scale. 0 means that the respondent is not at all capable for work. 10 means that the respondent’s work ability is at its peak. For perceived functional capacity, the respondent was asked to assess how well they cope with daily actions and tasks on an 11-point scale. 0 means that the respondents perceives that they cope very poorly. 10 means that the respondents perceives that they cope very well. Satisfaction with life and perceived health were asked about on a five-step scale.
The connection between perceived functional capacity (horizontal axis) and perceived work ability (vertical axis) is drawn on a thermal chart. Perceived work ability improves as perceived general functional capacity improves. The colour of an individual cell indicates how many responses fall in the cell. The colour shifts from pale yellow (few respondents) via green to dark blue (lots of respondents).
