Workplace accidents

Every year, occupational accidents cause significant costs. Monitoring occupational and workplace accidents as well as occupational diseases is key to preventing accidents and allocating the preventive measures correctly.

Description

In Finland, occupational accidents are registered by the Workers’ Compensation Center. The graph of occupational accidents in 2014–2019 was generated based on open data by the Workers’ Compensation Center. The data is based on wage earner accidents at work and during work time which are compensated for by an insurance company.

What do the indicators describe

All the graphs are interactive. The graphs include the numbers of occupational accidents. The sizes of the graph shapes are calculated in relation to the number of accidents relating to the shape. Choices in a single graph filter all of the graphs. In each graph, you can see the exact number of accidents by hovering the cursor over the graph.

Lines containing missing values are omitted from the data. The data has been anonymized so that individuals can not be identified. In total, there are approximately 687,000 cases.

The occupation designations of years 2014 and 2015 are based on the 2009 classification of occupations of the Finnish Workers’ Compensation Center. After the year 2015 occupations are classified based on Statistics Finland’s TOL 2010 occupational classification. Industry data is classified based on Statistics Finland’s TOL 2008 industrial classification.
